This blog will serve as a kind of public notebook for thoughts, ideas, and discussions around the project “Online Dating – Mediated Communication between Romantic Love and Economic Rationalization”. This three-year sociological research project is a cooperation between the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Institute for Social Research, Frankfurt/M., Germany, and is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
You can find out more about the project on the following pages:
The project is conducted by Olivier Voirol, junior assistant professor at the University of Lausanne and researcher at the Institute for Social Research (project applicant), and me, Kai Dröge, a sociologist currently also associated with the University of Lausanne, the Institute for Social Research as well as the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
In this blog, we will present (preliminary) results of our study, share some methodological considerations with you, discuss new literature, and give some insight in the everyday challenges of sociological research. For us, this is an experiment testing out new forms of scientific publication and discussion. We will see where it leads…
Articles will be in English, French or German – depending on the topic (and on the current mood of the author).
So if you are
- a sociologist interested in topics like love, couple formation, rationalization, and the internet,
- a student looking for some insight in the practice of qualitative social research,
- a journalist writing about online dating or related topics,
- somebody with any other kind of interest in what we are doing,
you are invited to join us as a reader and as a discussion partner. We would greatly appreciate to get some feedback from you; please use the comments function or send an email to mail_at_romanticentrepreneur.net (replace _at_ with @).
